 The first
pictures of the film x93Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinskyx94, a movie about the
romance between Coco Chanel and the famous composer Igor Stravinski, are out. I
was delighted to see that Stravinski will be played by Mads Mikkelsen (aka x91le
Chiffrex92 in Casino Royale), who is one of my favourite actors. The movie wonx92t
be shown until April 2009. As I mentioned earlier, this wonx92t be the only movie
about Chanel. Audrey Tautou will star in x91Coco Avant Chanelx92, coming out spring
2009.

Accompanying
his 2009 Winter pre-collection, Karl Lagerfeld made a brilliant mute-video
portraying a young
Coco, played by Edita
Vilkeviciute. Click here to watch.

 Beefjerkychanel

If you
think Chanel you think 2.55, the iconic handbag first issued in February 1955. The
handbag is a classic must-have in every wardrobe and exist in every colour
imaginable. The artist Nancy Wu even made one out of beef jerky. The handmade bag
exist entirely out of beef jerky, except for the shoulder strap and the lock. I wonder what Karlwould say about this…

Anna_wintour_2
Longtime
there have been rumours for a documentary on Anna Wintour and Vogue. Perhaps
not on a SATC-scale, but I was excited nevertheless. Now WWD confirmed that the
documentary will be shown on the Sundance Film Festival, and Ix92m really looking
forward to it. Will the Queen of Fashion resemble Mirandy Priestly, as we all
secretly hope. Or maybe shex92ll actually be a Bree-like housewife, always baking
cookies for her co-workers (yeah, maybe). Only time can tellx85 Ix92ll keep you
posted.

Katy Perry,
the Hot x91n Cold singer, has been called new fashionista/trend-setter by the LA Times and Elle Franxe7ais. And
I can immediately see why. Even though I find her styleto be too childish and
fruity sometimes, she looks absolutely fabulous when on the red carpet. I love
the sense of humour se puts in her clothes and how she can always pull it off. Her
surrealistic and sarcastic clothing style really showed at the MTV Europe music
awards, where she wore a blue strapless dress shaped like a dragon and later on
the iconic Obama-dress, both by JCDC. But my absolute favourite is without a
doubt the asymmetric half-suit, half-ballerina costume. With dresses from
designers like Manish Aurora, JCDC and Basso and Brooke, Katy Perry is one of
the first to bring all things fun back to the red carpet. Ix92m just not sure if
x91fashionx92 is one of those thi

Leave it to Vogue to make Matrioshkas a must-have

For their
10th anniversary the Russian Vogue had a brilliant idea. They asked 31
designers to create a Matrioshka-doll in their own style. The dolls are handpainted
and about
50 centimetres in height, and will be auctioned November 20th.  I find every doll absolutely marvellous, seeing
that they are all so unique. This made it quite easy (at least for a hard-core
fashionista like myself) to link the dolls to their designers. My favourites
were YSL, Martin Margiela, Prada and Dries Van Noten. Can you guess to wich
designer these dolls belong?

Vacation,
finally. This means I have time to go shopping, at last. Because lately Ix92ve
been having that full-closet-but-nothing-to-wear-feeling, every single day,
this means time for a wardrobe-change. When I dive into my full-yet-empty
closet I immediately see what the problem is. I have a lot of beautiful pieces,
but none of them match. All of my clothes are influenced by other styles, other
friends, other icons. So before I can go and burn my old wardrobe and replace
it by a new one, I searched the web looking for inspiration. Here are a few
styles that I really like and can see myself wearing.  (Pictures from Karlascloset, Chictopia and Fahiontoast)

LFW day two: Todd Lynn

Amode_todd_s2008 Amode_todd_s2008_2 It was the first Todd Lynn show I saw, but I didn’t need to see much to convince me of the designers brilliance. Inspired by the impeccable dressed-up looks of the 1930s and 40s,Todd Lynn combined elegance and cutting-edge tailoring (his trademark, apparently) perfectly with Short bikerjackets, lacquered cotton wrap dresses and sculptural skirts. I absolutely loved the tuxedo jumpsuits, that came in smoke antler and raspberry. My favorite silhouette, however, was the feathered dress at the end of the show.
Todd Lynn also designed a collection for Topshop, that has his signature sharp tailoring. (clic here)

LFW Day one

Last Sunday the London fashion week started, and I managed to skip a day of school so I could be therex85

Monday

Due to the fire in the tunnels, we arrived half a day late and almost missed the only show I really wanted to see that day: Ann-Sofie Back. Luckily, we could rely on the fact that fashion shows always start half an hour late. So when we arrived, we even had time to spare to exert our favourite hobby: shoes-spotting.

After only ten minutes I remember why I love Londonso much. People dress so much more daring here, I feel like everybody is putting a lot effort in how they dress. Ix92ve got to admit, it can be completely wrong and over-the-top, but eight out of ten itx92s the most stunning outfit Ix92ve ever seen, until I see the next one.

Back_2_summer_2009_3But back to Back. Like last year, Ann-Sofie Back’s collection is inspired by celebrity obsession. But whereas last year she criticised the x91celebrity-mediacircusx92, this year she was inspired by the use of plastic surgery. With the models wearing plasters on their nose, black ink-stripes on their eyebrows and cling-film around their shoes; there were obvious winks to plastic surgery. But also in the clothes there were references to this industry, more subtle this time. Tricky, draw-string gathering in a series of jersey cocktail dresses to represent the surgical processes involved in a facelift and metal clasps on trouser waistbands and jacket lapels to resemble the staples used to hold skin in place during recovery. But do not let this scare you; the collection is actually very feminine and elegant. Back showed some beautiful ruffled dresses and, as always playing with proportion, gorgeous menx92s jackets. Oh, and I loved the absolutely sunglasses with big diamond rings all down the side.

The Ann Sofie-Back show is without a doubt my favourite London designer.

The Exhibition

Mmm_exhibitionjpg_2_3 This year, Martin Margiela celebrates the 20th anniversary of his label. Every magazine wrote about it, everybody talked about it and the FashionMuseumin Antwerp made the exhibition. And of course, I was at the opening. It looked like the whole Belgian fashion crowed had gathered at the Fashion Museum to celebrate the opening of x91Maison Martin Margiela: The Exhibitionx92, all playing the same game: Who looks the most stunning in Martin Margiela? But for the first time at the opening of an exhibition, I wasnx92t looking at the shoes of the girl next to mex85

Mmm_exhibition_3The exhibition gives a clear portrait of the label, known for being conceptual, deconstructive and underground. All the concepts that make MMM unique are being brought to attention: the anonymity of the designer, the famous Tabi-boot and the Replicax92s, to name a few. The exhibition also shows us the different shapes used by the designer, how the shops look around the world and combines 20 years of Martin Margiela defiles in the x91Birthday-roomx92. But my favourite part was the one about artisan-collection, Margielax92s haute couture. A dark room with beautiful artisan pieces looming from the dark, one by one. A fur coat made out of wigs, a jacket out of necklaces and a asymmetric top out of tiny mirrors, these are just a few examples of the brilliance of the artisan collection, or x91garments remodelled by handx92 as the x91Maisonx92 prefers to call it.

But the opinions about the exhibition werenx92t all good. x91To sterile and educativex92 some called it, x91I didnx92t learn anything newx92 the owner of the MM-shop in Brusselsassured me and I must agree with N.: x91With a label like Martin Margiela, you could have done so much morex92.Conclusion: Not nearly enough for the hard-core fans, a must for everyone else.
